Two Headed Giants

This is our favorite format for playing Magic at the shop.  Experienced players can team with new players and everybody has fun.
Players can get 4 packs* to open and get to build their decks for an hour (4-5) .  (we provide the land and stuff, so you don't need anything more to play.)  We pride ourselves that  no one here will make you feel anything but welcome (we all started from scratch at some point).

(*Sometimes we do special THG using prerelase packs or other fun packs.  When we do, the event price will likely change to reflect that. Check each week to see if there is something new.)

EVERYONE MUST HAVE PROOF OF VACINIATION.  (THIS IS AN EVENT WHERE PEOPLE SIT RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER FOR AN HOUR AT A TIME.  NOBODY GETS PUT AT RISK FOR A GAME.)

Also... No DCI numbers anymore.  Go and download the Magic Companion app, and sign up for an account using your email.  https://accounts.wizards.com/

Who’s it good for:

  • Buddies
  • Sweeties (couples…either where both play, or the significant other is looking for a nice, no-pressure way to share something the other person really likes)
  • Parent/Kid combos (or big sibling, etc)  Kids get to be the smart ones for once, and the parents get to see what this is about (and get a great date with their kid)

About Two Headed Giants

Parent & Kids playing two-headed Giant

Two-headed giants are a team Magic the Gathering event. Teams usually comprise of buddies, parent/kid combos, and a lot of couples.  Both players play together, sharing a life total, showing each other their cards, consulting with each other and playing at the same times.  Because of that it is both great social fun, and probably the best way for a new player, or someone who is just curious what their buddy/kid/or SO likes so much about the game to get a chance to try without feeling any pressure to know all (or any) of the rules.  Think of it like tandem skydiving…you get all the fun, without having to worry about when to pull the rip-cord.(It is particularly great for Moms or Dads who want to have a really cool date night with their kids. This event is a GREAT way for parents to figure out what this thing the kids are doing is anyway, and for the kids to get a chance to be the ones who know what is going on for a change. ;-)Because you play as a team and can help each other out, the kid gets to be the smart one for a change, and the parent gets to play without needing to worry about “doing it wrong”. Also…kids love having their mom or dad help them try and beat another team.)

Each player (head) gets 4 packs and shares them with their partner to make two 40 card decks, one for each player . You’ll have plenty of cards to use to make interesting decks with that number of packs, and the cards you open are yours to keep.  Teams play 3 matches against other teams (since the team starts with 30 life instead of twenty, it is a single game…they usually last anywhere from 25-50 minutes.) If you win a round, each team gets two prize packs.  If you lost, you will most likely be paired up with someone else who had the same type of night, so it tends to balance itself out.

D20 tends to be a friendly place to play, and the Two-headed Giants are particularly so.  We have great players who take pride in making other players feel welcome and remembering that it’s a game, its played for fun.

Sat 10-4 Continuous Draft Prerelease Commander Legends Baldur's Gate
Magic: The Gathering
Tournament
2022-06-04
10:00:00

Draft event using the 3-pack prerelease kits from the latest Magic: Commander Legends release. You get to keep your special prerelease foil and can use it in the draft, but it doesn't count as a pick. You take two cards from a pack at a time. Draft uses Commander rules, so you must only use cards that are in your commanders' colors, and your deck size is 60 instead of 40, but draft is also Limited, so you can use as many copies of any card as you have copies of that card in the draft. This set is made to be drafted by way of the Background mechanic, which allows you to run two mono-color commanders both in the command zone (one with Choose a Background and the other which is a Background), so you are not necessarily limited to only one color.

This is a continuous draft, so whenever there are enough people to draft and run a pod, you can. Entry fee for consecutive drafts (after the first) is always $25.

We provide the basic lands. Like all Commander limited environments, there is a special card that you can run any number of copies of even if you didn't draft it, which ensures you are always able to run your colors even if you didn't pick up a single commander, and we also provide that card. Please return your basic lands and Faceless Ones after the draft.

Entry fee is $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

Everyone gets one prize pack.

Sealed event using the prerelease kits from the latest Magic release.  Players can get their boxes of 6 packs to open and get to build their decks starting 1 hour before each event.  New Capenna is a faction set, so you will get one of the five faction kits. Faction kits have 5 normal 15-card packs, 1 random exclusive promo foil rare or mythic rare from the set, and a special 15-card faction pack which you can only get in the prerelease kits. We provide the basic lands, so you don't need anything more to play.  We pride ourselves that  no one here will make you feel anything but welcome (we all started from scratch at some point).

The prerelease and release events are great chances for players who haven't gotten a chance to play in person to come to a friendly, fun event where everyone is starting from scratch and no one knows much more than anyone else yet.

Entry fee is $30 in advance and $35 at the door.
