Jace is not dealing with his trauma well, and he is making it our problem.
In the newest addition to the Magic… uh… Echoverse, we’re visiting? Revisiting? Dude, I don’t know. We’re visiting Hexhaven, a same-same-but-different Strixhaven whose schools of magic represent the other five color pairs that Strixhaven does not.
In U/W, we have Fatehold, the School of Future History.
In U/B, we have Theorix, the School of Esoteric Mathematics.
In B/R, we have Stingerquill, the School of Painful Words.
In G/R, we have Konstrari, the School of Constructive Arts.
And finally, in G/W, we have Vigorbloom, the School of Invasive Healing.
In this article, I’ll be going over the set mechanics in Reality Fracture to get you prepared for the upcoming Prerelease events!
Empower Jace
Token Planeswalkers? Man, Jace really is making this all about him!
When a card asks you to Empower Jace X, first check whether you have a Jace Planeswalker Token. If you do, add X loyalty counters to that Jace Planeswalker Token.
If you don’t, create a Jace Planeswalker Token and add X loyalty counters to it.
If somehow you end up with two of these Jace Planeswalker Tokens, you can choose which one gets the loyalty counters.
There is only one “Jace Token,” so you’ll always make the guy pictured above.
Heartwood Tokens
Heartwood Tokens are another brand-new token being introduced in Reality Fracture.
They’re pretty straightforward: they can be tapped to add either {G} or {R}.
Prepared
The last mechanic in the set is a returning one from Secrets of Strixhaven earlier this year: Prepared.
In case you need a quick reminder—or this is your first time seeing the mechanic—cards with Prepared will have an associated Instant or Sorcery that can only be cast if the creature is prepared.
Different cards will have various ways to become prepared, but once they use their associated Instant or Sorcery, they become unprepared and won’t be able to use that Instant or Sorcery again until they become prepared.
